How many shepherds visited baby Jesus in Bethlehem? How many jars of water did Jesus turn into wine? How many lepers thanked Jesus for healing them? Preschoolers are learning their numbers and counting is a life-long skill they are learning now. So, why not combine counting with God’s amazing Word to make this endeavor extra fun? Here is a fun Bible school activity that you can play with your preschoolers that I call “How many Children were Sitting with Jesus?”

Many people who have tried to learn by reading books have decided that chess is too complicated for them. The shorthand notation they use is too hard. But there are now books that the regular person who wants to learn about chess can do so. It probably wasn’t that chess was too hard for them, just the book.

Lockets evolved from ancient amulets and really became popular in the Elizabethan era. Elizabeth I wore a locket ring, containing her own portrait and that of her mother, Anne Boleyn. Elizabeth was in the habit of giving jewel encrusted lockets to the likes of Francis Drake and others of her favourites. Mary Queen of Scots is supposed to have presented her servant with her locket on the eve of her execution – it is known as the Penicuik locket and is now in the Scottish National Museum. The images in antique lockets were hand painted by the leading artists of the day and could only have been afforded by the wealthy.
As a professional genealogist, most of my work involves tracing ancestors back into history. However, recently I have noticed a growing interest to find living relatives descended from ancestors. I have discovered a few cousins myself, and it is certainly a delightful experience to communicate with someone who shares a common ancestor with you. However, carrying out a lost relatives search is a very different exercise to tracing historical ancestors.
